Coach Dylan Row Visits Łódź

Coach Dylan Row recently made his first visit to Łódź and Poland, gaining an in-depth look at the opportunities available to student-athletes through the Łódź Legion and the European University College Hockey League (EUCHL). What began as an exploratory trip quickly turned into a strong belief in the future that Poland — and specifically Łódź — can offer aspiring hockey players looking to combine elite competition with education and personal development.

Throughout his time in Poland, Row was immediately impressed by the safety, cleanliness, and overall atmosphere of the cities he visited. From the modern infrastructure to the welcoming environment, he noted how comfortable and accessible everyday life felt for both local residents and international students alike.

“One of the biggest things that stood out to me was how safe and clean everything was,” said Row. “The cities are incredibly easy to navigate, and the public transportation systems are excellent. Whether it was walking, biking, or taking transit, getting around was simple and efficient.”

During the visit, Row also took the opportunity to tour several universities, explore their campuses, and evaluate the student-athlete experience firsthand. He visited dormitory locations, training facilities, and rink locations throughout the city to better understand how players would live, study, and train while competing in the EUCHL.

The combination of quality education, modern facilities, and growing hockey opportunities left a lasting impression on Row, who believes the opportunities being created in Łódź extend far beyond just the university level.

“I really believe Łódź provides a unique opportunity for student-athletes,” Row explained. “Players are able to continue developing their hockey careers while also investing in their education and future professional opportunities. The EUCHL creates a pathway where athletes don’t have to sacrifice one for the other.”

Row also emphasized that playing in Łódź can serve as an important first step toward building a professional hockey career in Europe. With the rapid growth of hockey across the continent and increasing connections between leagues and organizations, he believes the EUCHL is creating a platform unlike anything currently available to North American players.

“This is an unbelievable opportunity for young players who want to continue chasing the dream of professional hockey while earning a degree at the same time,” Row said. “Coming to Europe, experiencing a new culture, and developing in a competitive hockey environment can open so many doors for players both on and off the ice.”

He added that he is especially excited about the long-term vision of the EUCHL and the opportunities the league is building for future generations of players.

“What the EUCHL is putting together is only going to continue growing,” he said. “The league is creating pathways and opportunities that simply didn’t exist before. I think more and more players are going to realize how valuable this experience can be.”

For Row, the experience was also personal. Reflecting on his own journey through junior hockey and NCAA Division I hockey, he admitted he wished an opportunity like this had existed when he was beginning his own university hockey path.

“If something like this was available when I was starting my hockey career, I absolutely would have looked at it seriously,” Row explained. “Being able to combine education, high-level hockey, international experience, and exposure to professional opportunities in Europe is incredible. I honestly think an opportunity like the EUCHL could have accelerated my career progression exponentially.”

As the Łódź Legion continue building their program and attracting players from across North America and Europe, Row believes the city’s culture, accessibility, educational opportunities, and direct connection to the European professional game will become a major advantage for student-athletes looking for a different path in hockey.

With European hockey continuing to expand and evolve, Row’s first experience in Poland reinforced his confidence that Łódź is positioned to become one of the premier destinations for players seeking a balance of academics, athletics, professional opportunity, and life experience abroad.
