Łódź Legion Adds Canadian Playmaker Soren Nicol
The Łódź Legion is proud to announce the commitment of forward Soren Nicol of Sparwood, British Columbia. The 2007-born forward becomes the latest addition to the Legion's inaugural roster as the organization continues building toward its first campaign in Poland's historic industrial capital.
Nicol arrives in Łódź following a development path that began at the Kootenay Hockey Academy before moving on to the Airdrie Thunder, where he most recently showcased his vision and skating ability that caught the Legion coaching staff's attention. The Sparwood native brings a playmaking mentality and strong hockey IQ that should translate well to the European ice surface, where time and space allow creative players to thrive. His ability to distribute the puck and create opportunities for linemates will be valuable assets as the Legion establishes its on-ice identity in year one.
"He's a skilled playmaker with excellent vision and natural skating stride. He is a young man who understands that this experience is about more than just hockey. He's committed to growing as a student and as a person while competing at a high level."
The EUCHL model offers players like Nicol an alternative development pathway that combines elite hockey with European academic opportunities. Through the Legion's partnerships with the University of Łódź and Łódź University of Technology, Nicol will pursue higher education while training and competing against top international talent. The experience of living abroad, adapting to a new culture, and chasing your dream all played an important role when making his final decision to join the Legion.
"We're excited to welcome Soren to the Legion family," added Kyle Lambourne, Director of Hockey Operations. "He's the kind of player and person who will embrace what we're building here—developing players, building character, and redefining the college hockey experience. We look forward to watching him grow both on and off the ice as we prepare for our inaugural season."
The Łódź Legion will continue announcing roster additions throughout the spring & summer as the club builds toward the EUCHL's October 2026 season opener.
