Łódź Legion Adds Two-Way Defenseman Sam Rieger

The Łódź Legion is pleased to announce that defenseman Sam Rieger of Strathmore, Alberta has committed to the club for the 2026-27 European Union College Hockey League season. The 2006-born blueliner marks another exciting addition to the Legion's inaugural roster as the organization continues building toward its first campaign in the groundbreaking new league.

Rieger joins the Legion after most recently competing with the Calgary Bandits, where he showcased the versatile two-way game that attracted Łódź's coaching staff. Standing out as a big, mobile defenseman with genuine offensive upside, Rieger developed a reputation for reliability in all situations throughout his time in Alberta. His ability to contribute at both ends of the ice while logging heavy minutes in crucial moments made him a priority target for the Legion's defensive corps.

"Sam brings exactly the type of complete game we're looking for as we build this program," said Legion management. "He's a defenseman who can defend his own zone responsibly, move the puck efficiently in transition, and contribute offensively when opportunities arise.
